Veolia: Unifying an Ecosystem of Internal Websites

In 2013, Veolia took the first step in the digital transformation with Google’s G Suite, and within a year 80.000 employees were live. From there, Veolia began to transform the way they work by introducing innovative cloud applications. At that time, Google Sites were already being used to share internal information.

The challenge

When Veolia started thinking about a new intranet at the end of 2014, IS&T Department, Communications Department and HR department had some key challenges in mind:
– First and foremost they needed to embody the “One Veolia” vision which is to have everyone speaking the same language,
– Provide users easy access to their Google Working environment,
– Users should be able to find biz apps, documents and relevant contents in their own language.

And all this should be made available from a single entry point. This single entry point called the “Homesite” should be capable of aggregating information from the whole Veolia Google working place.
Thus, they were not only trying to build a new intranet, they were trying to build a whole ecosystem of internal websites.

Why LumApps?

After having considered several options Veolia decided to choose LumApps, mainly for its capacity of supporting multi-language contents, its native integration with G Suite, and its powerful search engine.

Benefits

From a communications point of view, users from different countries can see top down information published by the Headquarters and bottom-up information sharing is also made possible by the Homesite.

In early 2016, Veolia launched the Top 500 mobile application tailored made for the Top 500 executives of Veolia. This mobile app mirrors contents of a dedicated LumApps in the One to One ecosystem. This way they bring the latest information one step closer to their senior executives.

Veolia is the world leader in waste, water and energy management services. With 170.000 employees in 50 countries worldwide, Veolia generated an annual revenue of €24.965 million in 2015. It is headquartered in Paris (France).

“One to One, Veolia’s portal, went live in May 2015. The initial target audience was 40.000 employees in 9 different countries. We reached that goal in just 3 months. Today each of the 100.000 users has the possibility to customize his or her personal space by subscribing to the news feed of different sites and by bookmarking favorite business applications. Thanks to the success of this project, we are now using LumApps as one of the standard solutions for intranet sites and in some cases external sites as well. Each site owner is free choose between LumAppss and Google Sites depending on their needs.”
