Red Energy Engages Employees with a New Social Platform
Red Energy launched a new intranet to unite three different brands inside the Snowy Hydro group.
About Red Energy
Red Energy is an energy retailer in Australia, operating within the National Electricity Market (NEM) selling to both residential and commercial customers.
Red Energy’s main wish was to create 1 team: 1 business, 3 brands.
As each brand had their own intranet, all operating on separate and outdated software, Red Energy struggled to communicate the same message consistently. Not all employees had access to all intranets and contributors often had to duplicate communications for each system.
The goal of the project was to ignite conversation and foster community.
Red Energy had been interested in LumApps since 2015, however their infrastructure needed to be restructured beforehand. By 2017 Red Energy had become G Suite business, so LumApps was an obvious fit.
Ultimately, LumApps was chosen for 6 main reasons:
Software as a service, No hardware, No hosting, No coding, READY-TO-GO
Aligns with Google product roadmap and Red Energy’s future directions to meet customer needs
G Suite integration
Out-of-the-box, full integration with G-suite family of products
Built using Google’s requirements for integration and meet Google’s standards for Security & Compliance
Speed to market
Quick deployment in just a few months
Chosen by Google
Recommended and chosen by Google for corporate communications and social sharing capabilities.
Campfire brought employees from 3 different brands together as one group, providing more consistent communications across the business. The new intranet communicates everything to everyone, in a format that’s engaging and interesting. Employees also have a choice to follow interests and Campfire partly solved the email issue.
A common platform:
Campfire as home base. Employees start from Campfire to launch their work apps.
Employee Autonomy. Teams set up pages and sites themselves, on a needs basis.
Facilitated workflow. To create content, Red Energy has implemented an workflow that lets employees develop their communication skills while sharing information.
Communities. Most of them are open to everyone, with transparent content.
One of the objectives was to create conversation, and that is happening. I have never seen that before.
